My name is Rose. I am 18 years old and graduated from Sonlight Academy in Port-de-Paix, a small town on the north coast of Haiti, last year. Sonlight is an English immersion school and I was extremely blessed to be able to attend it. I graduated at the top of my class. Because my English is so good, I was chosen to be the translator for US speakers who came to give the graduation address.

I have a wonderful family. My dad works at a local school and does maintenance and repairs, but earns very little money. My mom is a housewife and has been busy raising 4 children. I have 2 sisters; one is a lawyer here in Haiti, another is the wife of a pastor in the Dominican Republic, and my brother is studying architecture in Brazil. As you can see, my mom and dad did a very good job or raising us.

I am hard working and ambitious and have BIG dreams. I want to be a doctor and specialize in obstetrics. On my own initiative, I have applied for admission and been accepted at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida. I have passed with high grades all the exams that are needed to be accepted (TOEFL and SAT). This is a great accomplishment for a little girl that grew up at “the end of the world” in Port-de-Paix.

Someone once told me, “Anyone can read the Word, but when we put in the work to study the Word, that’s when we own it. It’s in digging and searching that we take it to heart. These are the things we’ll remember weeks, months, and years from now.” I am digging and searching.

I wanted to start school last September but have been unable to for lack of money.

I must prove support in the amount of $23,000 to start school. This is an impossible amount for a poor Haitian family. As I said, I am an ambitious girl with lots of initiative and am digging hard. I have raised almost $10,000 myself. I am praying for help to raise the remaining amount. This is an impossible dream without your help.
